As it is not very easy to teach English to grown-up individuals, follow a list of ESL fun learning sessions that will be helping you to encourage and educate your students successfully
- ESL Surveys
Under this technique, the students mainly concentrate on developing four skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Basically, it is such a game that gives an essence of real-world activities to their learners within a span of time.
Learners need to read particular questions which are later directed to students. Then the students answer these questions and take down notes over the response they receive. It thus helps in increasing the communication skills of the students.
- Hot Seat
In this theme, divide your students into two teams making the learners sit by facing a whiteboard. Then keep two hot seats or empty chairs at the front facing the teams. A student from each team will sit on the hot seat with his/her back towards the board and front towards teammates.
Thereafter, a vocabulary word will be written on the board while each student sitting on the hot seat should presume the word in English. This ESL activity not only encourages the adult learners and also helps in developing the vocabulary stocks of the learners.
- Slow Listening
In general, the English coursework books are designed in learning segments that are undergone either in class or at home. However, maintaining the right pace is the key to adapting adult learners to understand the topics without which they will become frustrated and bored as they cannot comprehend the spoken language that is taught. So, speak slowly and clearly enabling your students to learn little by little but effectively that grows their interest in learning.
- Dictionary Game
You also can use this fun activity for the advanced English development of your learners who will learn how to make use of a dictionary. The teacher or an apprentice can choose a word that should be tougher to find the meaning of the word from the dictionary. Once the word is chosen, every student needs to write the word meaning on a piece of paper while the individual who picked the word should write the actual description.
Now, all the papers will be collected, and all the descriptions will be loudly read enabling the students to vote on the meaning they thought correctly. They will be awarded an earning point for their correct answering. It will also improve their stock of words.
- Pictionary
In this guessing game of learning, you need to split your class students into two groups. One apprentice from each team will draw something on the whiteboard which the groups have to guess. Allow them time span, say 3 minutes for the guesswork. With every correct answer or guessing the team that answers it correctly will earn points. Accordingly, the winner among the two teams will be decided by you. The fun but exciting game will be highly supportive for the learners to discover more vocabulary.
- Role Plays
Role plays as an effective way to link among learning vocabulary, basic grammar, and then in free conversion. Ideally, students with a higher-beginner apprentice background are found more competent about basic conversation, if allowed a bit of time to think on the subject. First, let them know the whole objective of this learning session and focus on the conversion point which should be based on your subject of teaching. Allow the students to participate in the session in pairs.
- Personal Discussion
Most of the students expecting those who are wary find it enjoyable and prideful talking about their lives, families, retirement, and achievements, etc. This type of activity may be practiced either in pairs or groups and the apprentices ask each other for personal details and information.
